Notable picks from these upcoming auctions include a recently discovered table by Japanese-American artist and landscape architect Isaumu Noguchi, a Crocodile Settee, and Two Moutons de Laine from the historic collection of French artist couple Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, and timeless furniture pieces from designer Thomas Moleworth s private Montana collection. The first auction also features a wealth of items of post-war design.

The show will be the first in an American art museum in over forty years for the work of Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. Les Lalanne, as they were known, are beloved by many for their whimsical, functional, animal form sculptures such as a hippopotamus-shaped desk and sheep-shaped benches. After so many gloomy months, these fun, fantastic artworks are sure to put a smile on your face, so reserve your tickets here.

Is it furniture, sculpture or decorative art? New exhibit at Clark gives Les Lalanne their museum moment

They are not furniture, they are not sculpture, just call them Lalannes. Hovering between the lines of sculpture, decorative art and furniture, Moutons de laine, 24 handmade woolen sheep that can be used as chairs or ottomans, were the first to be referred to by that name, in 1966, by sculptor François-Xavier Lalanne, one half of the art duo known as Les Lalanne. Shortly thereafter, their highly sought, surreal yet functional sculptures, all became known as Lelannes. Moutons de laine (Woolen sheep) (detail), François-Xavier Lalanne, 1968-1971.
