Dutch National Opera Presents DIE ERSTEN MENSCHEN This is the first time Die ersten Menschen is being performed in the Netherlands.by BWW News Desk This June, Dutch National Opera will present a new production of Die ersten Menschen by Rudi Stephan. The German composer (1887-1915) was only 28 years old when he died at the front in the First World War. He had just completed Die ersten Menschen at the time. The opera was given its posthumous world premiere in 1924 and has only been staged sporadically over the past century (the last time was in 1988). It can now be seen in the Netherlands for the first time. With his staging of Die ersten Menschen, Spanish theatre and opera director Calixto Bieito makes his debut at Dutch National Opera. François-Xavier Roth will conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Dutch National Opera will perform Die ersten Menschen as part of the Holland Festival. The winners of ICMA 2021 20/01/2021 The Jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) today announced the Awards for 2021. German soprano Edita Gruberova is honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado is Artist of the Year, Turkish pianist Can Cakmur is Young Artist of the Year. The Discovery Award is awarded to 14-year-old German violinist Maya Wichert. Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings is the Label of the Year. A Special Award is conferred to Drazen Domjanic, General Manager of the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein as well as founder and Manager of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and to violinist Ingolf Turban.

By and large, the trends of the previous few years continued: the proliferation of smaller niche labels continued to come up with the more interesting repertoire while the output of leading brands became steadily less adventurous. Studio recordings now tend to be much rarer than those taken from live performances for opera.
