Wolverine recruiting report: The battle for 2022 4-star WR Tyler Morris, a former teammate of Michigan QB signee J.J. McCarthy
Updated Jan 15, 2021;
The early signing period for the 2021 recruiting class has come and gone as college programs shift most of their attention to the 2022 class.
One of Michigan’s top prospects in that cycle is four-star receiver Tyler Morris from Nazareth Academy in Illinois.
RANKING: No. 11 receiver, No. 2 overall prospect in Illinois and No. 75 in the country, according to 247Sports’ Composite system.
SIZE: 6-foot, 190 pounds
THE RECRUITING BATTLE: Although Morris hasn’t officially named any top schools, he told The Michigan Insider this week that he has had the most contact with Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Florida, Missouri and Northwestern.

While we all wait on a decision from Jim Harbaugh, perhaps no one’s in limbo more than his coaching staff.
Six Michigan assistants are set to watch their contracts expire on Monday, creating confusion, unknowns and setting the stage for what could be a major overhaul to the staff.
If Harbaugh elects to stay, of course. As of Tuesday evening, there was no update between him and the University of Michigan, who reportedly offered him a contract extension last week. Harbaugh has yet to sign the new deal, while rumors continue to link him to the NFL.

It s time for our quarterly review of relevant recruiting rankings. Why? Because big moves can mean as much as where they re ranked. Ratings are on a curved 5-star scale that averages all available data. Remember that players will tick downwards as a class progresses so dropping from 150th to 158th in a three-month period is nothing. Further explanation of all this here. Updated roster data are here.

As Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Florida prepared to play for conference championships, they signed top-10 recruiting classes for 2021 they hope to fuel their next title contenders.
The most unusual college football season in memory brought the convergence Wednesday of the start of the early signing period with the end of the regular season, which includes 10 conference championship games this weekend.
“I could be here all day talking about how different this is,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said on the Big Ten Network.
The pandemic has altered much about the college football season and recruiting this year, but somethings never change. Alabama is on the way to having the highest-rated class in the country. The Buckeyes are not far behind. And it starts at the top.

Michigan’s football program had an eventful national signing day.
It added its top remaining 2021 target in West Bloomfield four-star running back Donovan Edwards and also held on to two prospects who were strongly considering other schools: four-star receiver Xavier Worthy and three-star cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows.
But the Wolverines also lost two of their top defensive prospects as four-star linebacker Branden Jennings flipped to Maryland and four-star defensive end Quintin Somerville flipped to UCLA.
