Let me start this column by saying I am a white middle-class, Jewish woman. I am also a radical wanting to get to the root of problems by working on uncomfortable issues that can easily lead to blaming, anger, hate and creating “others.” I want our community to confront tough feelings and come out the other side rebuilt, stronger and together. The following is an offering of my observations about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the Iowa City Council and some of the public that is engaging on these issues. It is meant to be constructive. It is my attempt to turn observations and feelings into positive suggestions for a path forward.
