Housing and Development Newsletter The cities have asked for additional information from the county to analyze the data leading to the higher costs.  In addition to the new higher rate for next year, the cities balked at so-called “true-up” costs for 2019-20, through which the county seeks the difference between the estimated and actual costs for service.  “The sheriff’s department has applied those true-up costs but has included major issue here in the current year billing that patrol hours are a part of the true-up billing. Of course, that’s not the case; it’s not part of the contract. That affects the current year and going forward,” Durflinger said.

The two new courts at Hans Christian Andersen Park and are expected to be ready for use by the end of April. The City says after several requests for pickleball courts were received, they were able to figure out a way to make them happen. Donations are helping pay for part of the project and some of the tasks, like building a retaining wall, are being done in-house to help limit expenses. “We heard the community ask for pickleball courts, which seemed challenging from a cost perspective, but staff stepped up,” said City Manager Xenia Bradford in a press release. “Public Works staff has done a tremendous job taking the time from their work-day to make this happen for the community.”

Solvang cancels annual Tree Burn, offers curbside tree pick up

SOLVANG, Calif. Solvang announced the cancellation of the annual Tree Burn on Tuesday evening. Instead of the annual Tree Burn, the City will pick up Christmas trees on the curbside. The annual Tree Burn was cancelled due to COVID-19 and stay-at-home orders. The curbside collection will begin on the week of January 4, 2021. The annual Christmas Tree Burn is long-standing holiday tradition in Solvang. The fire demonstration event is usually held early in January and it s the wrap up event to the month-long Solvang Julefest celebration. “We considered all options which might have allowed us to hold the Tree Burn this year, in spite of COVID-19. However, due to the possibility of the Tree Burn creating an unintended gathering, and all of the necessary logistical considerations, the City will not be holding the Tree Burn this holiday season,” explained Solvang City Manager, Xenia Bradford.

Boys and Girls Club gets OK to use the Solvang s Vets Memorial Hall | News
