Roger Green, a British writer who has lived on the island since the early 90s, says some older islanders are afraid to leave their homes. “The vaccination process has passed us by,” he said. “I know people like me who are in their eighties and are afraid to go out at all. We’re not complainers, we love Greece but for most foreigners here, at least, the system isn’t working.”

Ireland Joins List Of Countries Pausing Use Of AstraZeneca s COVID-19 Vaccine

Mar 14, 2021 Jon Hamilton Ireland has temporarily suspended administration of a COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca following reports of abnormal blood clotting in several people. The move comes after countries including Italy, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Latvia suspended, delayed or limited rollout of the vaccine over safety concerns. The AstraZeneca vaccine, made in conjunction with the University of Oxford, is not authorized in the United States. But it is used widely in Europe, and about 117,000 doses have been administered in Ireland mostly to front-line health care workers.

Chris Jackson/Getty Images Updated on March 15 at 12:05 p.m. ET France, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland have joined a number of other European nations in temporarily suspending administration of a COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca after reports of abnormal blood clotting in several people. Germany s health minister Jens Spahn announced Monday that the country would suspend administering the AstraZeneca vaccine. Spahn said it was a precautionary measure following the recommendation of the Paul Erlich Institute, an agency of the health ministry.
