The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha.
Okorocha, who is the senator representing Imo North was arrested Tuesday at about 4:15 pm at his private office in Abuja.

Since the inauguration of the Ninth National Assembly in 2019, Nigerians have witnessed the death of no fewer than 10 federal legislators. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have grieved over the loss of some of their colleagues. While some died due to old age, others died after suffering one illness or the other.
Although death is inevitable, and a call everyone must answer as and when due, itâs painful for families and friends whenever someone they love dies. The constant deaths of the lawmakers, which happen days or months apart, has given rise to mixed feelings from various quarters.

The question of who becomes the bonafide candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Imo North Senatorial seat persists between Ifeanyi Ararume and Frank Ibezim as the duo has been frequenting the courts to establish their individual candidacy for the seat despite the party’s insistence that Ibezim is its official flag bearer as decided in a free primary election.
However, the emergence of Ibezim from the party’s primaries did not actually go down well with some of the aspirants among whom is Senator Ifeanyi Araraume.

Following the 5th December 2020 Imo North Senatorial by-election to replace the late Benjamin Uwajumogu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared victory in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) without proclaiming a winner. This was due to a multiplicity of cases by APC members claming to be the partyâs candidate and the various reliefs they were able to procure from different courts. But in a recent petition signed by the partyâs acting National Chairman and governor of Yobe, Mai Mala Buni, APC accused Supreme Court Justices Mohammed Dattijo, Abdu Aboki and Helen Ogunwumiju of conspiring with the Peopleâs Democratic Party (PDP) to deliver the senate seat. This grave allegation has already elicited a response from the apex court with dire implications for the people of Imo North and democracy in Nigeria.
