Fondly remembered as “the founder of Sunday morning”, Freedland – who died in 2018 aged 83 – scored a number of scoops, including being the first programme in Britain to break news of the Entebbe rescue, as well as the first to uncover the oppression endured by Russian refuseniks.
On Sunday, JW3 will host a virtual event to celebrate the show’s milestone anniversary with Michael’s son Jonathan Freedland, author and columnist for The Guardian, alongside historian Simon Schama, former Israeli Labour party leader Isaac Herzog and the Holocaust Education Trust’s Karen Pollock.
BBC Sounds will also republish 50 episodes online, which have been “lovingly digitised” from their original tape format by Freedland’s grandson, Jacob.
Pat Nevin suggests two reasons why Chelsea are favourites to beat Leicester City
May 17, 2021
Pat Nevin felt that squad rotation and Leicester City claiming their first FA Cup would give Chelsea an advantage in tomorrow’s Premier League tie.
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Nevin was forecasting Tuesday’s massive league contest between the Blues and Leicester.
It is a repeat of last weekend’s cup finale, a fixture that the Foxes came out on top of.
Thomas Tuchel will be seeking revenge and to avoid losing three games on the bounce for the first time in charge of Chelsea.
Today s case total - 20 fewer than the 2,047 recorded last Saturday - come as fears continue to grow about the Indian Covid variant spreading rapidly in parts of the UK.
Runners have put their best foot forward for a pilot event on the road to a safe return of mass participation sport amid a “brilliant atmosphere”.
The only running event in the Government’s Events Research Programme began on Saturday morning at Kempton Park in Surrey.
Runners and spectators taking part in the Reunion 5K will help to provide scientific data on Covid-19 transmission levels, with both socially-distanced and non-socially-distanced runs being trialled.
Surrey County Council leader Tim Oliver said it had been “amazing” to take part.
