ASEAN foreign ministers on Tuesday agreed to appoint the second foreign minister of Brunei Darussalam Erywan Yusof as the group’s special envoy, ending a three-month-long tussle among the ASEAN members.
The decision came as a big relief as ASEAN is contemplating the next move to provide humanitarian aid to the COVID-19 affected people and those who need immediate health care. Since the coup in February, the public health care system has collapsed as most of the doctors and nurses were on strike and refused to go to work. The international community is worried that if the pandemic is left unheeded, COVID-19 could spread to half of the 57-million population.
