Ida Rupp Libraries to expand hours starting May 1

The Beacon The Ida Rupp Public Library branches have extended their service hours at all three locations. Beginning on Saturday, May 1, the extension brings the reduced hours of the past year closer to pre-pandemic hours. “The new schedule adds Saturday hours at all of our locations, which had been discontinued due to Covid-19,” said Library Director Lindsay Faust. “We have also expanded our evening hours to two nights a week, instead of just one for Port Clinton and Marblehead residents. We are providing later evening hours for our Erie Islands Branch patrons.” Faust said that Marblehead patrons will be excited to see library hours were added on Wednesdays.

SIMPLE GESTURES supports community during Covid-19

In their sixth year, the contributors of SIMPLE GESTURES completed five new distributions in a big way with over 1,700 items! Partnering with the Friends of the Ida Rupp Public Library, 610 new and gently-used books for all ages were accepted by Board Member Marlene Gulas, left. Since Covid-19 created a pause for many programs, these books will be displayed and periodically replenished on the Free Books Cart located in front of Bistro 163. In addition, bags and boxes of 903 paper and personal hygiene products went to Rosalynn Barnhill of the Advocacy Center for Ottawa County families. Port Clinton Rainbow Acres Daycare received a book tote and colorful kids’ jackets, while packs of Pre-K flat books were delivered to mailboxes of Bataan Primary teachers. A fifth distribution of themed books and items was presented to a Port Clinton mom for her daughters.
