Health officials urge patience as older Idahoans become eligible for COVID-19 vaccine

BOISE, Idaho Idaho Health and Welfare Director Dave Jeppesen is asking Idahoans to be patient as the state works to get a large population group vaccinated against COVID-19.
During a news conference on Tuesday, Jeppesen, along with other leaders from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, provided an update on the state s vaccine rollout and took questions from the media.

With COVID-19 case counts down nearly 80% from a peak of 2,298 on Dec. 9, Gov. Brad Little has announced that Idaho will move back up to stage three of his Stay Healthy order.
âWhen we moved back to stage two in November, case counts were spiking and hospitals were bracing for the worst,â said Little in a news release Tuesday. âToday, thanks to our collective good efforts, those case counts are much lower and trending downward. Idaho now has one of the lowest rates of spread in the nation.â
Little noted that COVID-19 case counts have trended downward throughout the months of December and January.

MIAMI and AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 1, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has selected Miami-based ClassWallet and its FamilyWallet product to manage its new Supplementary Special Education Services (SSES) program for families of students with significant cognitive disabilities and impacted by COVID-19 schooling disruptions.
Under the program, established with $30 million in funds by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the TEA, nearly 59,000 qualified students statewide are eligible to receive a one-time grant of up to $1,500 for the purchase of a broad range of educational resources and services. Priority will be given to families receiving income assistance and/or families that have documented financial needs.

Last week as lawmakers were considering this proposal, Gov. Brad Little and the Idaho State Board of Education loosened caps on how many people could attend school sporting events. Schools can now allow enough fans to fill up to 40% of their gym’s capacity if masks are worn or physical distancing can be maintained. At minimum, each athlete can invite up to four guests.
Before the change, each athlete was limited to having two guests in the stands, while some, like on the dance team, were excluded from inviting anyone.
Republican Rep. Brent Crane (R-Nampa), who’s sponsoring the resolution, noted the change in his closing statements.
