SALT LAKE CITY It was a routine kind of night for Utah.
Even the performative rituals the national anthem, the pregame hype videos, deep-voice guy announcing the starting lineups with the lights out, and the crowd noise, albeit fake to classify a formal game were all part of the routine for Utah basketball.
The game, which was no more than a glorified scrimmage against one of the worst Division I programs in the country, was played as scheduled. And the Utes easily came away with a 79-41 victory over the winless Idaho Vandals on Friday night.
The only thing that went Idaho s (0-5) way against Utah (4-1, 1-0) was an unlikely shot chucked from about 30 feet out with a defender in the face that managed to go in as the 30-second shot clock expired in the first half. But it was just the Vandals second basket of the night after nearly 10 minutes of play, so it wasn t much to celebrate in a blowout loss.
