DARIEN The town’s Planning & Zoning Commission has notified the state’s joint housing committee it rejects the “one-size-fits-all” concept of proposed housing bills.
In testimony to legislators regarding several proposed laws in this session related to housing and zoning changes, P&Z Chairman Steve Olvany said the commission believes Darien residents are better served by their own local officials.
The testimony on three bills proposed from Olvany urged the lawmakers to preserve local control over zoning, land use and housing matters affecting Darien and all other municipalities in the state.

Person-to-Person grateful for donations during tough year
To the Editor:
Thanksgiving this year looked very different without extended family and friends at the table. Record numbers of our neighbors, almost a quarter of all Connecticut residents, are struggling to put food on the table. The need has never been greater, and our community rose to the challenge during this extraordinary November by sharing the harvest: an act that epitomizes the Thanksgiving tradition of expressing gratitude.
Person-to-Person (P2P) wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who shared their bounty with others, particularly during this very difficult time for those we serve. The Connecticut Food Bank, Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Walter Stewart Markets, families of Hindley Elementary School and Stew Leonard’s provided an additional 500 turkeys, allowing P2P to feed over 1,000 Fairfield County familie

Depot supports the ‘Our Darien’ campaign
To the Editor:
We are writing to support the fourth and final “Our Darien” Campaign, launched by the Thriving Youth Task Force of The Community Fund of Darien. There is strong evidence that high-achieving students and those living in affluent communities face unique challenges every day. A topic in this campaign focuses on how we can better understand the risk factors of affluence and how it can be a contributing factor of substance abuse among teens.
Intellectual, social and emotional pressure are no strangers to any adolescent growing up in Darien. Our kids are constantly held to high expectations of achievement, from the classroom to the sports field, and are faced with more and more opportunities to prove their abilities and offered less space to make mistakes along the way. We at The Depot Youth Center strive to serve our youth and our community
