How North, Northwest suburban schools could serve as vaccination sites

A group of North and Northwest suburban high school districts are coordinating efforts to host mass vaccination clinics for their teachers and staffs inside school gymnasiums, but it s up to the Cook County Department of Public Health whether they ll get that chance.
Northwest Suburban High School District 214, Maine Township High School District 207, Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211, Glenbrook High School District 225 and New Trier High School District 203 have applied to host large-scale COVID-19 vaccination sites for their teachers, other school personnel and those of their elementary feeder districts.

A proposed five-story apartment and retail building south of the railroad tracks in downtown Mount Prospect is encountering opposition from its residential neighbors.

Mount Prospect village board candidates Terri Gens and Peggy Pissarreck said they feel vindicated after the town s electoral board finalized a ruling Tuesday allowing them to remain on the April 6 ballot. This ruling confirms we followed the law, Gens said.
The candidates nominating petitions were challenged by former Trustee Steven Polit and village resident Tom Manion, who alleged Gens and Pissarreck violated village code by having two candidates on one signature petition.
But the electoral board ruled in a 2-1 vote that a 2005 appellate court decision in the case of McNamara v. Oak Lawn Municipal Officers Electoral Board sided with Gens and Pissarreck.

Mount Prospect Trustee Eleni Hatzis is ending her campaign for reelection rather than fight a challenge to her nominating petitions filed by the husband of an opponent. As a working mom with three children, all e-learning at home, and a full-time career, during a pandemic, I don t have time to spend debating signatures, Hatzis said Thursday. I will continue to serve the residents of Mount Prospect, but I am withdrawing my petition to be on the April ballot.
Hatzis, who had filed to seek a second term in the April 6 election, said she enjoyed serving as a trustee and believed her tenure was a good example to others.
