Innovative people are rare. But even more rare are people willing to change. Here’s some practical help from the Scriptures: I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me . I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us (Philippians 3:12–14).

My first hospitalization was in 1978. I was 23, where I was misdiagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I should have been hospitalized many times before that, but my family did not know that was an option. Over the years, my diagnosis was revised to include obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). From my earliest memories, life was a struggle. The struggle was compounded after my misdiagnosis, trying to fix problems I did not have.
