Subscriber only A METER reader has been hospitalised after being attacked by a dog on a North Queensland property. An Ergon Energy meter reader was filling in a card outside a Mount Isa property when a pit bull approached the man from behind and bit him on the leg. The meter reader was transported to hospital to have the wound cleaned and checked following the incident on Monday afternoon. The incident has been reported to council, and it s unknown whether the dog belonged to the property or was a stray. It s prompted a warning from Ergon Energy for residents to do their bit to keep the community safe.

Subscriber only CAIRNS Airport is looking likely to break its single-day April rainfall record, currently set in 1984 with 185.8mm. The Bureau of Meteorology advised Cairns Airport had received 194mm between 9am Monday and 8.30am Tuesday, and that it would be hard to suggest the record hadn t already been broken, but the data needed to be confirmed, which could take days. Another 79mm of rain has fallen at the airport in the past six hours, though the day s heaviest falls so far have been at Tully where 128mm has fallen since 9am.
Premium Content A 21-year-old Toowoomba man has died after a horrific crash at Allora, near Toowoomba, overnight. A Queensland Ambulance Services spokesman confirmed just after midnight, emergency services were called to a crash on the New England Highway near the Warwick Road turn-off. It is understood a single vehicle crashed onto a power pole, before rolling. Three Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews worked to free the man but sadly he died a short time later. The crash brought down power lines and Ergon Energy staff were called in to make the scene safe. Meanwhile, two teenagers have been hospitalised with critical injuries after a car crashed into a tree in the Gympie region last night.
