Oakdale start-up company Agitated Solutions, Inc. has been selected as a finalist in the 2020 Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) Innovation Challenge. Hosted by nonprofit organization Three Lakes Foundation and incubator hub MATTER, Agitated Solutions was named from a global pool of nearly 50 submissions.
Agitated Solutions is working on an innovative technology that can deliver microbubbles of oxygen intravenously. The treatment could be used for patients who suffer from hypoxemic respiratory failure, which is caused by not having enough oxygen in the blood.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a devastating lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. Over time the scar tissues destroy the lung, making it harder for patients to breathe and for oxygen to enter the bloodstream. Approximately 40-50,000 people each year are diagnosed with PF and 40,000 die annually.

CHICAGO, Feb. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Three Lakes Foundation announces it is collaborating with Mayo Clinic to increase awareness of pulmonary fibrosis (PF) symptoms; improve an understanding of the current diagnostic journey; and develop a remote diagnostic tool that connects patients with appropriate healthcare resources at an earlier and more treatable phase of their illness.
The initiative will be led by Andrew Limper, MD, who is associate dean of practice transformation and Annenberg professor of pulmonary medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
A portable oxygen concentrator that tracks, monitors and automatically adjusts the oxygen level for each patient, improving mobility and quality of life, has won an award.
OxyGEN, a medtech venture out of John Hopkins University in Baltimore, US, was named first-place winner of an Innovation Challenge intended to accelerate new solutions in diagnosing, treating and managing pulmonary fibrosis (PF), a devastating lung disease by Three Lakes Foundation and incubator hub MATTER.
Four winners were named in total and each one will receive a monetary award and will take the necessary steps to bring their solution closer to reality.
