Lake District Wildlife Park keeper takes you on virtual trip to Madagascar

A virtual trip to the great plains of Africa at Lake District Wildlife Park

Are you ready for this week’s adventure? Pack your sunhat and binoculars as we head off on a safari to the great plains and grasslands of Africa. Imagine just for a moment that you are sitting on a jeep looking over a vast expanse of land that goes on for miles. The sky is bright blue, and the grass is dry and yellow. You can see Acacia trees and, on the horizon a few odd shaped Baobab trees stand proud. It is hot and quiet with a gentle breeze blowing. Just as you begin to think all the animals are hiding, some black and white stripes catch your eye and herd of Zebra come into view. You sit quietly for a while to watch this beautiful scene from nature before continuing your exploration.

Going down under! Virtual trip around the world at Lake District Wildlife Park

Every week, Lake District Wildlife Park s Lucy Dunn updates our readers about this week s activities! Over the next few weeks, join us on a virtual journey around the World. The Keepers at the Lake District Wildlife Park have many different animals in their care that originate from all corners of the globe. The staff love exploring exotic places and learning about the animals that live there, so come with us to outback Australia, the rainforests of South America, the mountains of Asia and the plains of Africa before heading back to visit our beloved native wildlife in Cumbria. Dreaming of far-away lands and exotic animals can be both a relaxing and an inspiring thing to do. So, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, take a seat and let your imagination run wild! This week we are heading to the other side of the World, down under to Australia.

Don t miss your chance to meet Cumbria s otters at Lake District Wildlife Park

Imagine it is a crisp winters morning and you are at the Lake District Wildlife Park. As you walk past the Ring- Tailed Lemurs and on towards the Red Pandas, you are likely to hear some squeaks and chirps in the distance. As you get closer the squeaks get louder and you may glimpse two grey bodies dancing around in the grass. “Plop!” you may then hear as these sleek and graceful animals enter the water and glide across their pool followed by a stream of bubbles. As they clamber out on the opposite bank, the squeaks turn to squeals, especially if you are an Otter Keeper with a bucket of food!
