Storm closes Interstate 80, Highway 50 in Northern California as rain and snow totals pile up Sacramento Bee 1/29/2021 Rosalio Ahumada, The Sacramento Bee Jan. 28 The powerful storm that has pummeled Northern California for nearly three days continues to wreck havoc on roadways, especially over Sierra mountain passes and brought remarkable precipitation totals to the region. Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday, the California Highway Patrol reported that eastbound Interstate 80 was closed at Colfax and the westbound lanes were closed at the Nevada state line because of vehicle spinouts. A half-hour before, Caltrans officials said they were holding traffic in both directions on Highway 50 over Echo Summit for avalanche control. They estimated the closure would remain for about an hour.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An explosion and subsequent fire at a South Lake Tahoe home Friday was the result of a butane honey oil (BHO) processing explosion, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD). On January 15, 2021 at approximately noon, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the call of structure fire in the 900 block of Alameda Avenue. Upon arrival they found the fire was confined to the home s kitchen and the occupant had been able to put the flames out and there was smoke in the home and attic space. SLTFR observed signs of a marijuana grow at the location and contacted SLTPD.

STATELINE, Nev. - It was a much quieter holiday at Stateline this year with a decrease in calls for service, five arrests, and the lowest number of New Year s celebrants in a few decades. US 50, the highway that runs from South Lake Tahoe into Stateline was not closed due the low number of people in the area. Law enforcement was able to keep those wanting to bring in the new year outside to the sidewalk or they stayed inside the casinos. The celebrants were well behaved and embraced the New Year’s Eve celebration, said Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges.
