Somerset sees two days of pedestrian accidents

Vernon Street in Somerset on Tuesday afternoon.  Carla Slavey I CJ Over the course of two days, Somerset saw two different traffic accidents involving pedestrians on busy roadways. On Tuesday at 12:24 p.m., Constance Armstrong, 71, of Monticello, was in downtown Somerset, attempting to cross from the north side sidewalk of East Mt. Vernon Street walking south at the intersection with N. Central Avenue, when she was struck by a 2016 Hyundai, according to the Somerset Police Department (SPD).

Tennessee Man Facing Several Charges In Deadly 2019 Pulaski County Crash

London, KY, USA / SAM 103.9 FM WWEL | Today s Pop Hits Apr 20, 2021 4:49 AM A Tennessee man is facing several charges in connection with a deadly crash that happened in Pulaski County in 2019. According to deputies, 21-year-old James Oliver from Sparta, Tennessee was driving a 2009 Hyundai southbound on HWY 461 at the intersection of Old Mount Vernon Road and crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 1998 GMC truck. The driver of the truck, 81-year-old Milton Brock, along with two passengers – one of them only six years old – were taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment. Brock was later pronounced dead by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office. On Dec. 3, 2020, an indictment warrant was issued for Oliver, charging him with murder, assault, wanton endangerment, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence. Oliver’s arraignment is set for May 20.

Tennessee man charged with murder in 2019 fatal wreck

James Ethan Oliver, 21 of Sparta in White County, Tenn., was arrested in Sparta on April 5. He waived extradition and was transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center last Friday. Oliver has been charged with Murder, three counts of first-degree Assault, first-degree Wanton Endangerment and first-degree Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. The wreck took place on December 13, 2019 around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ky. 461 and Old Mount Vernon Road.

One new COVID-related death in Wayne; health department halts use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine

By CARLA SLAVEY Commonwealth Journal Apr 16, 2021 3 hrs ago After going a week without any COVID-related deaths in the district, the Lake Cumberland District Health Department (LCDHD) announced Thursday the death of a 71-year-old Wayne County resident who had been hospitalized. Before that, the most recent deaths reported within the 10-county district were two Pulaski residents who were announced on April 8: An 88-year-old and a 92-year-old, both of whom had been hospitalized. Earlier this week, LCDHD announced that it had temporarily suspended administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine “in an abundance of caution” after reports emerged that at least six people across the U.S. developed a rare type of blood clot after receiving the shot.
