Orlando Sentinel journalists and members of the community gathered at Lake Eola Park Saturday to demand that Tribune Publishing shareholders vote no on selling to Alden Global Capital.
Tribune owns important news outlets in Orlando and around the country including the Orlando Sentinel and the Sun Sentinel.

Private investment firm Alden Global Capital a hedge fund based in Manhattan, New York has cut staff at its Media News Group by 76%, according to an article by The Wall Street Journal.
Orlando Sentinel reporters, alumni and readers turned out Saturday to protest Alden Global Capital’s $631 million offer for the newspaper giant, Tribune Publishing, which owns the Orlando paper, the Chicago Tribune, South Florida's Sun-Sentinel and six other dailies.
Other unions under the newspapers’ parent company, Tribune Publishing, will also be holding their own rallies today.

The rallies come in the final days before Tribune shareholders are scheduled to vote on May 21 on Alden Global Capital’s bid for Tribune newspapers.
The company will be voting on a buyout bid from the hedge fund Alden Global Capital.
According to a Facebook post by the Sentinel Guild, “Alden is a hedge fund known for destroying newspapers. It guts newsrooms and shrinks staff to maximize its profits.”
The Orlando Guild rally is taking place at Lake Eola Park at 10:00 a.m. and features current Orlando Sentinel journalists and State Representatives.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Onlookers watched in disbelief as a man batted away a mother and father swan at Lake Eola, grabbed their recently hatched babies and tossed them into a red cooler, according to witnesses and video of the incident.
Frank Howard said he and his fiancé were at Lake Eola Park Sunday evening admiring the swan family with two babies, known as cygnets, when a man approached carrying a red cooler. The man, wearing athletic wear and sneakers, told Howard he worked for “Lake Eola Park” and was taking the cygnets to protect them from wildlife.

A Florida man has been accused of stealing baby swans from an Orlando park, leading to police involvement.
According to WKMG Orlando, visitors to the city s Lake Eola were reportedly stunned when they saw someone taking recently-hatched baby swans away from their families and putting them inside a red cooler.
Frank Howard and his fiancé were two of those guests who saw the scene unfold. Howard told the news outlet that they suddenly saw a man in athletic wear and sneakers approach a swan family with two babies, known as cygnets.
