THE member representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Iduma Igariwey, has slammed N100m suit against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for refusing to provide power in his community.
The PUNCH reports that there had been total blackout in the constituency, especially Afikpo since over five years now.
The lawmaker said he spent millions of naira on diesel to be powering his electricity generating plant following the absence of power supply in the constituency by the EEDC, adding that he had gathered all the receipts for the diesel which he would tender before the court as exhibit.

Residents of Umueledi in Old Umuahia, Abia State, on Tuesday, took to the streets to protest against exorbitant estimated electricity billing by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
The protesters, who carried a coffin with an inscription, ‘EEDC rest in peace’ sang war songs and marched around Afo Ibeji Market in Old Umuahia.
The leader of the protesters, Chief Amaechi Stanley, said EEDC had subjected the residents to economic hardship through outrageous electricity bills.
He said, “EEDC now advances an estimated bill of N36,000 to each household every month contrary to the N4,000 being paid before.

The residents of Umueledi in Old Umuahia, Abia State, on Tuesday took to the street to protest alleged exorbitant estimated electricity billing by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
The protesters who carried a coffin with an inscription “EEDC rest in peace” chanted war songs and marched around Afo Ibeji Market in Old Umuahia.
The leader of protesters, Chief Amaechi Stanley, said EEDC had subjected the residents of the community to untold economic hardship through outrageous electricity bill.
“The burden had become unbearable for the locals, hence their decision to cry out for external intervention.
“We have been complaining to EEDC concerning the outrageous billing but our complaints fell on deaf ears.
However, the inflation figure from the bureau in January 2021 points to a record 16.47 per cent which was 0.71 percent higher than the figure for December 2020. The food index rose farther than ever with a record 20.57 percent in January 2021 compared to the 19.56 percent recorded in December.
Business owners frustrated in Lagos
A bakery manager at Ogba Lagos, who simply gave her name as Miss Gbemi, said the owner of the bakery recently decided to close shop because of the high cost of production.
This, she said, was worsened by the exorbitant electricity bill which led to the disconnection of their light for months before the bakery was shut down.
