Sales of safety, hygiene products on the rise
Sales of pulse oximeter, face mask, glove and sanitiser have risen manifold, taking advantage of which some traders have increased the prices of the health and hygiene safety products.
The trends were observed by this correspondent at Mitford of Dhaka where sits the country s largest market for medical equipment, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Bhaban Market on Topkhana Road and several areas of the capital recently.
Importers, wholesalers and retailers say sales of the four products have risen by as much as 20 per cent. Sales of portable oxygen cans and portable ventilators increased slightly in March this year and returned to normalcy after the second week of April.

The ‘running man’ from Oldham has reached Leicester in his mammoth fundraising challenge from Oldham to London. Afruz Miah, 47, has run 161km from Oldham and reached Leicester. The aim is to get to Northampton by Monday. He has been running on average 15km a day during daylight hours while fasting. He said: “I wasn’t sure what I was letting myself in for but it’s looking good so far thanks to God.” For someone who was warned of an impending heart attack by his doctor only a year ago to run such a huge distance is unprecedented. NHRC closes complaint on arrest of Kerala scribe Siddique Kappan

Bhopal: Predictably, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has closed the complaint on the arrest of Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan, jailed since October 5, 2020.
Kappan, also the secretary of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWF), was on his way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh (UP), to cover the gang-rape and death of a young woman. Kappan, along with three others, were picked up and arrested under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, on charges of allegedly inciting caste and communal violence.
Big Changes Coming to Buffalo Public School Lunches
A new pilot program featuring halal meals will begin in September at eight schools.
WKBW reports Dr. Will Keresztes, Buffalo Public Schools Chief of Intergovernmental Affairs, Planning, and Community Engagement, made the announcement during the Buffalo Common Council Education Committee meeting.
The halal meals will be served at these schools, with plans to expand to all Buffalo public schools eventually:
