He did his schooling in El Centro before earning an Associate in Arts degree from Imperial Valley Community College in 1971. Benitez also attended San Diego State University (1974), before obtaining a JD from Western State University College of Law (1978). Claddagh Club extends helping hands to local students through scholarships

IMPERIAL VALLEY — The Claddagh Club of the Imperial Valley extended their hands in friendship to five local high school graduating seniors by awarding them scholarships for their future college studies. The Claddagh Club, also known as the Imperial Valley Irish American Club, has been awarding scholarships to local high school graduates almost as long as the Club’s inception in 1997, according to Club President Kim Taylor. “We wanted to do something where students from the whole Valley would be eligible,” she said. “I know we still have teachers and retired teachers (as members) and it’s just a way to do something for young people.”
