CHENNAI: Bigbasket has threatened legal action against Coimbatore-based online grocery startup DailyBasket for using the word ‘basket’ in its name.
Bigbasket, which is set to be acquired by the Tatas, sent DailyBasket a cease-anddesist notice last week alleging that the latter was offering identical services “through conflictingly similar domain name”.
The legal notice said that DailyBasket is using a name and mark that is “deceptively” and “confusingly” similar to Bigbasket.
Bigbasket has demanded that the nine-month old startup must stop using the domain name dailybasket.com, discontinue its mobile app, and stop all operations immediately.
DailyBasket co-founder Velusamy Ramesh Kumar told TOI they have engaged a law firm to take the issue forward legally. Bigbasket did not respond to queries.
