Spring recommendations: What to do in Estonia #7

Spring is here, coronavirus restrictions have been relaxed and there is plenty to do outside in Estonia. The Estonian Institute and Found in Estonia podcast has seven recommendations for you. Estonian Institute in collaboration with podcast  Found in Estonia  brings you a series of recommendations from English-speaking local foreigners. Jaime Delgado Ugrin (31) is from Santiago, Chile, and has lived in Estonia for a year and a half as a student at the University of Tartu. He says: I admit that I came to Estonia with low expectations, but soon I got amazed by the tranquility and the serene beauty of the country. Now, I declare myself a Tartu (and Estonia) fan.

Historian: 8-9 May - How and why do we remember the end of WW2 in Europe?

May 8 marks the anniversary of the German surrendered to Allied forces in 1945, which brought an end to the Second World War in Europe. Some former Eastern Bloc states, including Russia, mark this anniversary instead on May 9, accounting for the difference in time zones between Eastern and Western Europe. For many, May 9 has become a day of celebration, honoring the triumph over the Axis powers. However, writes Estonian historian David Vseviov, it would be more constructive, and more pertinent, to learn from the past rather than venerate it. This article was first published on the Communist Crimes website in Estonian, Russian and English.
