Russian aircraft violates Estonian air space for second time in three days

A Russian Federation aircraft violated the Estonian airspace border on Friday (May 7) morning, the second time in three days. The plane, an Ilyushin Il-96 airliner, entered Estonian airspace over Vaindloo Island in the Gulf of Finland area without permission. The plane stayed in Estonian airspace for less than a minute. The transponder of the aircraft was switched on, but the aircraft did not have a flight plan and at the time of the violation there was no two-way radio communication with the Estonian air traffic service. On Friday, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador to Estonia Alexander Petrov and handed over a note. The ministry also handed a note to the ambassador on Wednesday after the first violation.

Cavoli says that the ongoing DEFENDER-Europe 21 exercise is further evidence of the rock solid bilateral relationship between his country and Estonia. Gen. Cavoli was in Estonia Thursday and Friday, saying during his visit that: We have an incredibly strong bilateral relationship with Estonia and continue building interoperability across all domains. Our nations count on our forces being ready to defend the peace under any conditions. DEFENDER-Europe 21 provides us the best opportunity to hone our abilities alongside our allies and partners in this strategically important region so that collectively, we are ready to respond to any crisis that may arise, Gen. Cavoli continued, according to a U.S. Embassy press release.

Estonian Olympic Committee recognises MMA as a sport Friday, 7 May 2021 The Estonian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (EMMAF) has been accepted as a member of the Estonian Olympic Committee (EOC), with mixed martial arts (MMA) being recognised as a sport in Estonia. EMMAF Board member Ott Tõnissaar expressed his delight after more than a decade of aiming for national recognition. I am pleased to say, that after more than 15 years of work we can say that we are here to stay, as the EMMAF yesterday became a fully-fledged member of the EOC, said Tõnissaar. This means that MMA is now a Government recognised sport in Estonia and the EMMAF is its sole, national representative.

Estonian Ministry of Defence to use SCR’s aerial targets The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Estoniahas recently signed a framework agreement whereby the Spanish company SCR will supply aerial targets and provide services with them. It is a seven-year contract, awarded by the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments, that includes the acquisition of aerial targets and the provision of operation and training services by the SCR team in collaboration with the local company Bristol Trust OÜ. The European country’s Armed Forces will start using SCR’s target drones in May, when the first service within this framework contract is scheduled.
