India has received 150,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine as the country grapples with a brutal second wave of the pandemic, the government said Saturday.
Arindam Bagchi, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, said the doses, delivered to Hyderabad, would be the first of millions to be sent to India.
“Deeply value support from long-standing friend Russia. Over a decade of India-Russia special & privileged strategic partnership,” Bagchi said in the tweet.
India s drug regulator, the Drugs Controller General of India, approved the Sputnik V vaccine for use last month.

Nepal orders 20,000 oxygen cylinders as Covid-19 cases surge

Nepal has recorded 4,897 new daily Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, as the country faces a pandemic surge.
Nepal’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday called on all doctors and health workers on leave to report back to work immediately to help deal with the increase in cases.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, told reporters on Wednesday that demand for oxygen had increased threefold in the last week.
He added that Nepal was sourcing 20,000 oxygen cylinders from abroad to deal with the country’s limited supply.

A European Union legal case against British-Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca began in a Belgian court on Wednesday.
The European Union announced Monday that it is suing AstraZeneca over an alleged breach of its vaccine supply contract in a dramatic escalation of a months-long dispute over delivery delays that hampered the rollout of shots across the continent.

People in the UK might be able to travel internationally from mid-May using the NHS app

The UK transport secretary said Wednesday that the country s National Health Service (NHS) app will be used as a certificate for international travel, noting that the earliest possible date to unlock international travel would be in mid-May.
Under current coronavirus restrictions, it is currently illegal to travel abroad from the UK for holidays.
