Labour calls on county council to save Malvern Hills College from closure

CALL: Malvern Hills College; Cllr Robin Lunn (left) and Cllr Richard Udall (right) LABOUR councillors are calling on the county council to step in and buy Malvern Hills College to prevent it from closing. The college is due to close in August after bosses said it was too expensive to keep open with many students moving to courses in other parts of the county. Malvern Hills College has now been listed as an asset of community value, through the work of the Malvern Hills College SOS Task Group, and Labour county councillors are now calling on Worcestershire County Council to use compulsory purchase powers to save it from closure.

University of Worcester student s success despite pandemic

Student s success despite pandemic A student from Evesham has spoken about achieving First Class Honours in his university degree during the pandemic. Will Spires was among those to have completed his studies at the University of Worcester during this turbulent year. He achieved First Class Honours in his degree in Screenwriting with Film Studies. “It’s my life’s greatest achievement,” said the 21-year-old from Harvington. “I’m immensely proud of the person my time at university has helped me to become.” Will, a former Prince Henry’s High School and Evesham College student, said finishing his degree during the pandemic was difficult, but he praised support from his lecturers.

Evesham College students deliver festive cheer for elderly

EVESHAM College students have delivered festive cheer to the elderly after Covid scuppered a planned Christmas party. Supported learning students decided to deliver afternoon teas after concerns over the pandemic led to the cancellation of the college s annual festive lunch and afternoon of entertainment for pensioners as part of the Bridging Generations project. The initiative saw around 30 deliveries of boxes, which were put together by the students, taken out to different homes by Rotary Club of Evesham. The boxes included scones with clotted cream and jam, a selection of sandwiches, mini Christmas cake, mince pie, shortbread, fruit cake and a chocolate brownie and went some way to softening the blow of monthly lunches being cancelled this year.
