NEW YORK, NY .- “I was raised in an anti-imperialist household - that was the culture,” Sharif Bey explains, “a culture of asking, of questioning, of pushing back on the narratives that media has fed to us.” Over the past thirty years, Bey has channeled this impulse into his clay practice. In Revelations in Power, on view at albertz benda from February 18 through March 27, 2021, Bey presents work from four ongoing series – Protest Shields, Power Figures, Necklaces, and Babel Staffs. Revelations in Power represents the artist’s first gallery exhibition in New York, following institutional acquisitions of works from these series by the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, TX; and preceding Bey’s major solo exhibition at Carnegie Museum in October 2021.

DENVER, CO .- Artist Adam Milner recently completed a unique, two-year project with the Clyfford Still Museum (CSM), concluding with the forthcoming publication, Museum of the Invisible Woman. During the project, Milner combined archival research with in-situ interventions at the Museum to center explorations around Patricia Still, Clyfford Still’s second wife, who dedicated her life to his painting career and eventually to fulfilling Still’s vision for the Museum. The book repositions Clyfford Still as an artist dependent on community and the labor of loved ones, rather than the usual narrative of outsider, rebel, or loner genius. In the publication, themes surrounding love, labor, gender, ego, and legacy ultimately shift attention from the abstract expressionist master to his wife and to m
