Guest commentary: Community Partnership Schools are worth expanding

Many of us counted down the days – even minutes – until 2020 was behind us. But while we’ve turned the page on the calendar, we cannot turn a blind eye to the life-altering lessons the year has taught our nation – particularly when it comes to our children.
It’s often said that “children are our future” and “education is the pathway to success.” But the past 12 months have vividly pointed out the stark contrast that a child’s zip code has on their “pathway to success.”

BROOKLET, Ga. (WTOC) - Barrett Davis is leaving Southeast Bulloch after three seasons to become the head football coach at Evans High School in Columbia County.
Davis’ hire was approved by the Columbia County Board of Education on Tuesday evening.

Last year, Orange County canceled in-person graduations at all 20 of its high schools because of the coronavirus pandemic.Superintendent Barbara Jenkins announced there would be in-person graduations for the 2021 school year. We are quite encouraged that we can have all our graduation ceremonies all in-person with social distancing and with face masks at the (Amway Center), Jenkins said.The ceremonies will be held in-person at the Amway Center. Seniors at Edgewater High were surprised and thrilled at the news. We don t want to have it behind a screen or on a presentation but with our moms and stuff like that, Keshan Swain said. It means a lot. It means a lot, a lot. Jenkins told the school board the county s health officer, Dr. Raul Pino said in-person commencements can be safely planned.
