I m Not Your Food! Runner Gets Confronted by Black Bear in National Park

‘I’m Not Your Food!’ Runner Gets Confronted by Black Bear in National Park Duration: 01:04 It’s runner versus bear! Evan Matthews was jogging through Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming when he noticed something a hungry brown bear had started following him! A slow but scary half-mile chase ensued as the bear continued to stalk him. “I don’t care if you’re hungry, I’m not your food!” he shouted at the bear. Luckily, he did have his bear spray with him and was able to scare the bear away. After about 10 minutes, the bear gave up and went on its way.

Evan Matthews said he often sees bears on his runs, but none had dared to come so close. “This one was interested in me, so I had to change its mind,” he wrote. Rather than use his bear spray, which he deemed a last resort, Matthews opted to reason with his ursine inquisitor. In the video, the “cinnamon phase” black bear is seen stepping out of the woods and on to a road, despite Matthews’ stern objections. “Hey – no!” Matthews shouts. “I don’t care if you’re hungry. I’m not your food.” The bear continues to advance. “Sure,” Matthews says, “we could take a walk if you want. You don’t get any closer, though.”

Runner Faces Off With Hungry Bear Stalking Him | Shenandoah Country Q102

By Chris and Rosie Apr 21, 2021 It’s hard to imagine anything scarier than being followed by a bear out in the woods, but that’s exactly what happened to Evan Matthews. On a run through Grand Teton National Park, Evan saw a large black bear tracking him. He says he’s seen lots of bears in the wild, but this was the first one to show interest in him; Evan said, “He must have been extra hungry!” That’s a good time to have a way to defend yourself, isn’t it? Having run across bears before, he had a can of bear repellant spray with him but decided not to use it; he chose to yell at the bear instead, shouting things like “I don’t care if you’re hungry. I’m not your food!” The bear did get close enough that Evan shook his can of bear repellant at the animal, but after following him for half a mile, the bear turned and wandered away.
