Playing for Pride, Connor McDavid on Another Planet, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

With a win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, their first of the season, the Nashville Predators have locked up the fourth and final spot in the Central Division playoff picture, eliminating the Dallas Stars with two games remaining in the season. The Stars come to Chicago to take on the Blackhawks today and tomorrow to close the season for both teams and will also serve as the first and only two games of the 2021 schedule with fans at the United Center. While it will be an awesome energy in the building, there will be very little for the teams on the ice to battle for.

Blackhawks Recall Evan Barratt To Taxi Squad

The Chicago Blackhawks continue to move more young players into the fold as the season winds down to the final two games of 2021. On Sunday morning, the Blackhawks recalled rookie forward Evan Barratt to the Taxi Squad from the Rockford IceHogs. #Blackhawks prospect Evan Barratt could make his #NHL debut after he was recalled from the #AHL to the taxi squad. His 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 27 games rank third on the #IceHogs. Chicago (vs. DAL twice) and Rockford (vs. IA, at CHI) each play Sunday and Monday. After the Blackhawks announced that Brett Connolly and Duncan Keith, both of whom left the last game against the Hurricanes with concussions, were not cleared to play the final games of the season and that Calvin de Haan and Ryan Carpenter were also not cleared to play the final games of the year, the club moved Barratt up and could likely give him his first shot at the NHL in one of the final two games of the year.

Blackhawks end-of-year prospect rankings: Lukas Reichel, Henrik Borgstrom top list

Courtesy of Chicago Blackhawks The Blackhawks’ end-of-season prospect rankings look tremendously different than they did entering the season. Four of the 10 players listed in the November edition of this list Ian Mitchell (then No. 1), Philipp Kurashev (No. 3), Brandon Hagel (No. 4) and Wyatt Kalynuk (No. 6) became regular NHL players for the Hawks this season, and Lucas Carlsson (No. 8) was traded. All told, six of the 10 players on this list are being ranked for the first time. But most may stay for a while the Hawks will be more focused on developing their preexisting young players than integrating new ones next season and a few may be bumped out by the Hawks’ 2021 draft class.

A Truly Wild Day in the NHL and Other Blackhawks Bullets

Have we all calmed down after having a good night’s sleep? The NHL went through a ringer over the last 72 hours or so, centered around the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Tom Wilson, and T.J. Oshie (and it’s not even done yet). As the dust hopefully settles on what was a ridiculous chain of events in the past few days, we look to the Chicago Blackhawks to give us a sense of stability and familiarity in the hockey world. It will all feel right again when the Carolina Hurricanes continue their quest to finish the season as the top team in the NHL and likely beat up on the Blackhawks again tonight.
