SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â As the number of Californians testing positive for COVID-19 continues to climb, California workers have new protections to help keep them healthy.
Assembly Bill 685, which took effect Jan. 1 of this year, deals with COVID-19 exposure, notification, and violations.
The new law requires employers to provide notice within one business day to employees who have been exposed to COVID-19 at their worksite and report to the California Department of Public Health if an outbreak occurs. The reason that we had to introduce this is because we had lots of employers who were not notifying their employees when they had been exposed to someone who was positive for COVID-19,â said bill author Assemblymember Eloise Reyes. It seemed like it was common sense, but it wasn t happening.

Rolesville, N.C. Mailboxes lining the streets in the Heritage subdivision are adorned with orange and blue ribbons in remembrance of an 11-year-old boy who drowned in a creek that runs through the neighborhood.
On Nov. 12, more than six inches of rain turned the typically calm and shallow waters into rolling whitecaps.
Ty Williams’ parents said their son went to go look at the rough waters and slipped on rocks as he tried to cross the creek.
“He was doing what young boys do when you hear and you see something that is fascinating,” said Travis Williams, Ty’s father. “He went out to explore and then got consumed with the rushing water that he heard up the hill.”
Until now.
On Monday, the public media station KPBS published an investigation that revealed the addresses of 1,006 outbreaks that occurred between March and December.
When categorized by location type, senior living and nursing homes account for 214 outbreaks, the highest in the county. One in five outbreaks have been tied to restaurants and bars, and some 205 outbreaks were located at manufacturing companies and other businesses. About 125 outbreaks have been associated with grocery and retail stores, and more than 40 occurred at medical facilities.

Four outbreaks each have been identified at the Polinsky Children’s Center, a temporary emergency shelter for children, and the Hillcrest Heights Healthcare Center in San Diego nursing home more than any other locations in the county.
