U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently added new biometric facial comparison technology at the Cross Border Xpress terminal to bolster security and streamline travel into the country, authorities said.
When a traveler arrives from the Tijuana International Airport through the pedestrian sky bridge that connects to San Diego, he or she will stop for a photo at the primary inspection point.
An officer will retrieve the traveler’s passport or visa photo from the government database. The new photo taken on-site will be compared to the one previously collected, authorities explained.
This process only takes a few seconds and is over 97 percent accurate, according to CBP.
