The Toledo Mud Hens were rained out on Thursday. As a result they’ll play a pair of seven inning games on Friday against the Nashville Sounds. Right-hander Rony Garcia will get the start in game one after missing spring camp after appendicitis surgery.

Right-hander Elvin Rodriguez looked good in his 2021 debut, spinning four innings of two hit, shut out ball with six strikeouts. Rodriguez riding fastball and curveball were in lively form throughout the short outing as the Tigers were cautious with his pitch count.
Spencer Torkelson heads to West Michigan as minor league rosters are announced

The West Michigan Whitecaps will have some real drawing power when their Midwest League season begins on May 4th. With their home opener slated for May 11th against the Great Lakes Loons, the roster will feature a host of interesting prospects, including the Detroit Tigers two newest high-end prospects. The Whitecaps’ announced their starting roster today, headed by 2020 first overall pick Spencer Torkelson, and second round pick, catcher Dillon Dingler.
Overall, the Whitecaps roster is probably the most interesting group among all the affiliates. The Toledo Mud Hens will have top pitching prospect Matt Manning, as well as infielder Isaac Paredes and centerfielder Daz Cameron, but the Whitecaps roster has some intriguing names in a system that could really use a few guys to break out.

This year,
Jim McCormick, director of the awards festival program, was ready and well-adapted for a sophisticated live Zoom event that was held over two Sundays, March 7 and 14.
“After some initial ‘birthing pains,’ the process of virtual connection in education via Zoom and other platforms has become almost second nature,” McCormick said. “We still encountered a few surprise kinks along the way, but, as with anything else, when you give it your attention and continue to refine it, the virtual connection works so much better than many of us would have expected.”
