KP police claim improvement in performance

PESHAWAR: As the government is considering a number of reforms in the KP police including clipping powers of the top cop, the force has submitted performance report to the authorities claiming improvement in the overall affairs of the force as compared to the past.
The government has recently constituted a committee comprising a number of ministers and others concerned to propose reforms in the KP police. The process was accelerated following some incidents of police torture in lock-ups and other places.
The committee has been tasked to consider various ways of external and internal accountability of the force, clipping powers of the IGP and other officers, bringing Special Branch under the direct control of the chief minister through the Home Department and setting up a parallel inspectorate.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday announced to lead a strong campaign at international level along with the heads of Muslim countries to jointly fight blasphemy of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him).
On issue of blasphemy, he said, some political and religious parties in the country were “misusing” Islam to play with the sentiments of common man and were inciting violence.
“The protests and violence will do no harm to the West, but inflict a severe damage to your own people,” the prime minister said in his address at the groundbreaking of Margalla Highway, a project to be connected with Rawalpindi Ring Road.

Imran Khan says injustice breeds poverty; inaugurates low cost housing scheme in Sargodha

Prime Minister Imran Khan has defended the ongoing crackdown against an alleged sugar mafia and said the country cannot progress until the powerful are brought to justice.
“Pakistan cannot progress without bringing the powerful to justice. Injustice breeds poverty,” Imran Khan said on Wednesday while addressing the media during his visit to Punjab’s Sargodha district.
The prime minister was responding to a question with regard to PTI’s former secretary general Jahangir Tareen, who is also among the sugar mills owners facing an Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) inquiry.

SARGODHA: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that sugar mill owners extracted Rs126 to Rs140 billion from the pockets of the people by increasing the price of sugar by Rs26 in one year.
Talking to the media after laying the foundation stone of low-cost housing units under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme here, the prime minister said: “The government’s job is to protect its people.”
He added that the government conducted an inquiry into the sugar scam through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which submitted a startling report showing how the mill owners and powerful people had minted money by increasing the price, evading tax, etc.
