He’s a football lifer who grew up in Medford, played at the University of Maine and married his teenage sweetheart Judy Crowley. He’s been a head coach at UMass, Richmond and VMI, and an assistant coach at Syracuse, Virginia, Iowa, Boston College and Bucknell. So yeah, Jim Reid knows recruiting. “I love recruiting, I think it’s fun,” said Reid. “I’m talking to families about the program and the future of their children.” Reid turned 70 last year and has been sidelined since the COVID-19 crisis began, but over the years he’s driven to places like Pahokee, Florida, and Cedar Bluffs, Iowa, convincing players to join the program. “The key is getting to know the parents how hard they work, what they do and how they talk to you,” said Reid. “A humble, hard working parent who’s in the player’s life, you k
