Food 'Angel' Hands Cash to Freezing Texans Waiting for Food, Then Disappears

Food Angel Hands Cash to Freezing Texans Waiting for Food, Then Disappears On 2/18/21 at 1:04 AM EST Food, water, heat and electricity are scarce throughout many parts of the greater Houston area as the winter storm of a lifetime grips the nation s fourth-largest city. Finding a store that has basic necessities is one thing, and finding one that can take credit and debit cards is another, especially when the store s power goes out. The Foodarama near 18th Street and Ella Boulevard in the city s Houston Heights sector was open Tuesday night. The store was busy and cashiers rang up items, but then the power went out, so then they could only accept cash. The store stayed open, and customers could only buy essential items during the winter storm.

Houston sees long lines, limited supply of water and other essentials

Houston sees long lines, limited supply of water and other essentials By Jacob Carpenter and Dug Begley, Staff writer Alexandria Hampton got a rude welcome to Houston. Popular Searches In her first week living in the city, severe winter weather left Hampton without water pressure in her Sharpstown home Wednesday, necessitating an early-morning grocery trip. After striking out at a Meyerland Wal-Mart, Hampton found an open Food Town on the city’s southwest side and jumped in line with a few dozen other shoppers. Once inside, the selection left the South Carolina native pleasantly surprised, with plenty of bottled water limit two multi-packs per shopper and canned foods.
