Student Regent Arliegh Cayanan was the only regent who opposed the tuition increase.
The tuition increase aims to provide the university with additional funding in the form of tuition waivers to support students’ mental health and “basic needs,” according to the Board of Regents agenda.
Mary Jo Gonzales, WSU vice president of Student Affairs, said university general health and mental health services vary depending on campus, but they hope to increase access to resources.
WSU is trying to pursue a way to create equity within the system. The university has been working on a system-wide effort to provide students with telehealth and telemental health services, Gonzales said.
A POPULAR caretaker who went ‘above and beyond’ in his job at a primary school has retired from the position after eight years. Neil Lidster, who was caretaker at St Anne’s CE Primary School in Bishop Auckland, took his retirement on April 30, 2021. Ellen Taylor, assistant headteacher at the school, said: “Neil has been more than a caretaker to staff, children, and families at St Anne’s, always going above and beyond to help. “Nothing was ever a problem, from putting up a shelf to starting staff cars when they had broken down. “Neil built our nursery furniture from scratch and created play equipment ready for opening in 2017 using upcycled materials.

THE DUP s Jim Wells has been criticised for responding to a teenage constituent s query about an educational issue by questioning her use of the term the North .
Ellen Taylor (15), from Downpatrick, had emailed her local South Down MLAs to gauge their opinions on introducing flexible school starting ages to help some children.
The Alliance Youth member wrote: This is done in the South to great success, surely the North should adopt it too? Would love to hear your views as soon as possible as the legislation needs to be introduced before the next round of applications in January.
OBITUARY: Koungsa Bisa Young, 1942-2021
It is with great
sadness that we report the sudden death of our dear Mom Koungsa Young
(78), who passed away on April 20, 2021. Koungsa was born in Laos on
May 10, 1942. There she began her sixty-year marriage to Sing.
Koungsa, Sing and their seven children were forced to leave Laos in
the aftermath of the Vietnam war.
After spending
nearly two years in a refugee camp in Thailand, they were able to
immigrate to the U.S. after being sponsored by a Catholic parish in
Des Moines, Iowa.
From there they had
brief stops in Phoenix and Los Angeles. They settled down away from
