Oregon timber from the Red Shed at Whanganui s port has been turned into a new fence around the tram shed storage area on Taupo Quay. It s been nice to have had the opportunity to give this historically significant timber a new lease on life where we can all appreciate it, Town Centre Regeneration project manager Ellen Young said.

Green for go for new traffic lights
The new traffic lights at the Victoria Ave and Dublin St intersection are now working. The intersection has been controlled by a temporary roundabout since late October while upgrade work was done. The work cost about $150,000. It is Whanganui s second-busiest intersection behind the Glasgow St/Victoria Ave intersection, which was upgraded earlier this year

A Barclays Bank worker has admitted setting up a fake account, making false compensation claims and forging documents so she could take out a £2,000 loan.
Louise Ellen Young, of Tynwald Grove, Castletown, pleaded guilty to seven counts of fraud by false representation committed over four years.
The 48-year-old will be sentenced on January 19 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Young was working at the Victoria Street, Douglas, branch of the bank in March 2020 when the crime was uncovered.
Young had set up an account in 2015 in the name of a former customer and taken out a loan on the account of £2,000. The customer had moved to Scotland in 2013 and then closed her Isle of Man account in 2015.

The co-design process for lower Victoria Ave has kicked off, after central government funding was secured to design a temporary, vibrant streetscape to attract people into the area to interact with each other and local businesses.
Town Centre Regeneration project manager Ellen Young says she s enjoyed engaging with the 20 lower Victoria Ave stakeholders including businesses, residents and mana whenua representatives who attended the first workshop and their response has been generally positive.

A second mural, new mobile Italian food business and giant games are set to pop up in Whanganui s Maria Pl this summer.
La Bella, a food business owned by friends Natalina Damosso and James Winterburn, is expected to open this Wednesday in the Maria Pl pop-up space between Victoria Ave and St Hill St.
