WARREN Courtney Leasure and her dog Marley have successfully hiked strenuous trails all over the country.
But their hike earlier this month near Lake Tahoe in California was the first time Leasure had to call for help.
Inspired by Cheryl Strayed s trek in Wild, the 31-year-old veterinarian technician from Warren and her canine companion set out on the Pacific Crest Trail April 12.
The trail was unmarked, so Leasure used a trail map on her phone and followed footsteps in the snow. But, after about six miles, she lost service.
Then, the footsteps disappeared.
Leasure was able to use her phone to spot a nearby road and headed toward it, but as she and Marley traversed brush and slippery rocks, they both fell about five feet.
