Lim + Lu brings the outdoors into this family apartment in Hong Kong
Multidisciplinary design practice Lim + Lu has refurbished the interior of this 167-square-metre apartment in metropolitan Hong Kong to make it feel like an elegant yet quaint summer home .
Designed for a nature-loving Japanese and British couple with two children, the interior has subtle, neutral colours and finishes that are intended to place focus on the greenery that fills the space.

Located on the first floor of a 1950s building, the apartment s windows are perfectly in line with the palm trees that surround it. To enhance this connection to the outdoors, Lim + Lu replaced all of the existing, small windows with larger aged-steel windows that bring in more natural light and make the space feel larger.

The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig, a picture book published in 2013. Justin is new, and when the other kids make fun of his food and his chopsticks, Brian, a shy, lonely white boy who longs to be included by his classmates, decides to leave him a note, telling him he isn’t like those kids; he’d love to try bulgogi. Justin, whose food has not kept him from making other friends in the class, starts including Brian in activities based on this act of kindness, and all ends well, all because Brian said he’d be willing to eat bulgogi, objectively an incredibly flavorful and popular meal.

The Huge Mountain, is one of the largest works in their donation to M+ it’s more than five metres long. “I’ve always liked how his work crosses between Chinese classical painting and contemporary art,” says William. “We bought this work from Hanart TZ Gallery, I think in 2012. One thing that really struck me was that there was a moon on the top of the mountain. I don’t know why, but I’ve always thought that moon was very beautiful.”
