Croft Primary School gifts hampers to Great Western Hospital

A PRIMARY school delivered Christmas hampers to Great Western Hospital to say thank you to staff for their hard work. Croft Primary School raised almost £1,000 to buy food and gifts to make a hamper for doctors and nurses at the hospital and at Quarry Mount are Home. Head teacher Elaine Murphy said: “We wanted to give back to the frontline workers for all they have done. MercyHospital Foundation thanks public for record high donations

The Mercy University Hospital Foundation has announced that it is on course to fundraise over €2.8million in 2020, which is the largest amount raised by the Foundation in a year since it was set up back in 2007. A significant part of the money raised is in direct response to the Foundation’s Covid-19 appeal, supporting front-line staff in the Mercy University Hospital. The Foundation is now appealing for donations for its Cancer Care Centre, which will be located at nearby 9 Dyke Parade – which is a Georgian terrace building. Commenting on the news, Chairman of the Board, Eoin Tobin said: “Like many sectors, charities have faced a tough year. So far, so straight-forward really. I started on the IVF journey in 2003, Elaine says. Everything looked beautiful at first. I had loads of eggs, they fertilised great, everything was going really well. But for some reason, I was just not getting pregnant. After the first bout of IVF, Elaine had something called hyper stimulation; meaning, I produced so many eggs that my immune system went into overdrive. All sorts of things can happen then. At one point I was in hospital for weeks with a bowel blockage and a suspected infection. I recovered. Certainly for some people, that would have been the end of trying IVF. But not for me. Elaine and Brian continued to try, and try. The subsequent IVF treatments were unsuccessful but uneventful .

The concert will not only stream to people’s homes it will also be played in care homes and hospitals across Cork this year. This is the fourth year of the very popular The Christmas Jingle and as always it will feature a multitude of top singers and musicians from Cork. The charity concert will be the usual format of live performances of all the classic Christmas songs and they are even keeping their usual raffle with fantastic prizes. This year people all over Cork will be able to sing along from their own homes.
