WHAT was once a hobby has turned into a new business venture for Rita and Trevor Wilson who are opening an alpaca farm and visitor experience in Downings.
After realising the potential for agri tourism in Donegal the couple began to build up their herd and now have 21 of the furry creatures with females due to give birth in July.
“We have both Huacaya and Suri alpacas. The Huacaya breed has a dense crimped fleece, which results in them looking like teddy bears. The fleece of the rare Suri breed grows longer and silkier, giving it a lustre appearance. Suri alpacas are rare and make up only ten per cent of the world’s alpaca population,” said Rita.

State Weighs Incentivizing Vaccines
Gov. Spencer Cox said Thursday that Utah is still waiting to see if it makes sense to offer incentives for people to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Cox said he and top lawmakers want to analyze data from other states offering things like cash lotteries or scholarships to see how much they actually convinced people. So far, 57% of Utahns over the age of 12 have gotten at least one vaccine dose. Over the past week, there’s been an average of 245 new cases each day.

Utah Lowers Flag To Remember San Jose Shooting Victims
Flags have been lowered at Utah state buildings to honor victims of Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Jose, California. A gunman took the lives of nine people at a rail yard where he was employed. Gov. Spencer Cox authorized the lowering of the Utah flag at state facilities through sunset on Sunday. It follows President Joe Biden’s order to lower the U.S. flag to half-staff at federal and military facilities.

Salt Lake City has relaunched its Keep It Pure initiative, a campaign aimed at keeping watersheds clean. The Department of Public Utilities says they ve rebooted the program as the number of people visiting mountains and watersheds surges. The department says about 60% of Salt Lake City s drinking water comes from the canyon watersheds in the central Wasatch Mountains. Among several recommendations, people are being asked to stay out of the water and on designated trails. They’re also urged to use bathroom facilities, not to litter and to keep dogs and other domesticated animals out of the watershed.
