According to the 97th Surah entitled, Al-Qadr: The Majesty, it is believed by the Muslim scholars that the âNight of Power,â refers to a famous night in the month of Ramadan when the Holy Qurâan was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad, may the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon Him. On May 11, 1526, the Spanish monarchy issued forth a formal decree forbidding the importing of Muslims into the Western Hemisphere. According to esteemed scholar Sylvianne Diouf:
“After the first slave uprising in the New World, led by the Wolof in 1522, a royal decree of May 11, 1526, specifically forbade the introduction of ‘Gelofes’ (Wolof), Negros (Blacks) from the Levant (or Middle East), those who had been raised with the Moors, and people from Guinea without a special license from the Casa de Contratación, which regulated the slave trade and put levies on the slaves.

We now know that the FBI coordinated a series of assassinations as part of its covert domestic programs. The COINTELPRO was set up to surveil and disrupt groups and movements that the FBI found threatening. Though many groups, including anti-war, student, and environmental activists, and the New Left were harassed, infiltrated, falsely accused of criminal activity, the Black community and particularly the Black Panther Party bore the brunt of the abuse. The attack on the Black Panthers was one element of the bureau’s efforts, as Hoover himself described it, to “disrupt, misdirect and otherwise neutralize” African American organizations and prevent the possible rise of an influential Black leader a Black messiah.

We begin on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, where Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr was born, the second son of sign painter Cassius Sr and cleaning lady Odessa. At the age of 12, Cassius’s bicycle was stolen, and he reported the theft to a policeman named Joe Martin, who offered to give the youngster boxing lessons in a local youth centre. Spotting his talent, Martin began to feature him on his local TV show, Tomorrow’s Champions, before trainer Fred Stoner taught the young boxer the science of the sport.
