Giorgios Bakatsias Announces Osteria Georgi, a New Neighborhood Italian Eatery Giorgios Bakatsias is expanding his local culinary empire with a new, Italian family-style restaurant at 201 South Elliott Road in Chapel Hill.  Osteria Georgi is named for Bakatsias s good friend, the late George Tarantini. The restaurant is slated to open in the former Living Kitchen space later this spring and will serve brunch, lunch, and dinner, and will focus on pastas, braised meats, and antipasti, with special attention to locally-sourced ingredients.  Tarantini, the beloved longtime coach of N.C. State s men’s soccer team, was born in Italy and died in Raleigh in 2019 at the age of 70. 

Baker Bake Elliott, 98, formerly of Winthrop

Wednesday, January 27, 2021 - 7:02 pm Baker “Bake” Elliott passed away peacefully on January 21, 2021 at 98 years of age, having achieved his goal of being the longest-lived member of a family that has seen many of its members enjoy a similar fullness of years. He was the son of Rhoda Baker Elliott and Harold Elliott; husband of Dorothy Flynn Elliott for 70 years; brother of Marilyn (Bill Rodee) and Sally (Harry Payne); father of Barbara (Brian Lee), Bob (Bonnie), and Cindy (John Niles); grandfather of Adria (Amy Pennington-Lee), Brigitte (Ben Snell), Candy, Melissa, Tina, and Scott (Leigh Arquiett); uncle of Elliott (Mary), Leslee (Steve Hooper), and Terri (Doug Rodee-Knuth); and great grandfather of his beloved great grandchildren.

Area police reports 12-26-20

State Patrol Sunday, 3:46 a.m., in Paulding County Road 204 in Carryall Township, a vehicle driven by Boston Dunderman, 18, Antwerp, struck a ditch and culvert. Damage was heavy to the vehicle. He was cited for failure to control. Defiance Sheriff Wednesday, 10:47 p.m., a burglary was reported in the 03000 block of Ridenour Road, rural Edgerton. Defiance Police Wednesday, 12:35 p.m., at North Clinton Street and Elliott Road, a vehicle driven by Linda Holmes, 74, Lambertville, Mich., struck the rear of a stopped vehicle driven by Deborah VanBuskirk, 68, Elida. Holmes was cited for assured clear distance. Damage was light to the vehicles. Wednesday, 5:41 p.m., a shoplifting complaint was reported at Walmart, 1804 N. Clinton St.

Defiance County common pleas

Defiance Common Pleas James Prescott, 25, Hicksville, appeared for sentencing on two counts of receiving stolen property, each a fourth-degree felony; grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony; grand theft, a fourth-degree felony; vandalism, a fourth-degree felony; and two counts of breaking and entering, each a fifth-degree felony. He was given a 59-month prison term, according to Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office. He and a co-defendant stole a van parked at a Hicksville residence on Nov. 29, 2019, taking more than $7,500 worth of property from inside the vehicle, then vandalizing it and leaving it on State Line Road. Prescott also trespassed in the Hicksville Exempted Village Schools’ concession stand on Nov. 28, 2019, to commit a theft offense and received two stolen vehicles from others in November 2019.
