Photo by Victor Way residents AN animal rights group has reacted to a video which saw a police car driving into a runaway cow yesterday. The graphic video appears to show a runaway cow walking on the pavement before being mowed down by a police car in Woodley. Reacting to the video, PETA Director Elisa Allen, said: Law-enforcement officers are entrusted with protecting the innocent and vulnerable, and they’re not above the law if they wilfully cause suffering. A properly trained police officer would call for assistance if he or she could not humanely round up a frightened cow, and to do otherwise is to use undue force, which is prohibited for good reason.
Thousands Sign Petition to Stop Grand Canyon Bison Hunt Lottery After 45,000 Volunteer

Thousands of people have signed a petition to oppose the planned killing of bison in the Grand Canyon National Park.
Last month the U.S. National Park Service and Arizona Game and Fish Department announced it was looking for skilled volunteers to take part in the removal of bison from the North Rim area of the Grand Canyon park.
The lethal removal is due to start in the fall of this year. The NPS said the park is aiming to reduce the number of bison in the area to less than 200 by 2025, citing concerns about the bisons impact on park resources.

Thousands of Americans have applied to a lottery in the hope of winning a chance of shooting bison at the Grand Canyon, Arizona.
Over 45,000 applicants vied for only 12 spots advertised by the US National Park Service (NPS). They will help cull the animals after the service reported their population had become too large.
Officials claim that the bison had been trampling on archaeological and other resources, and spoiling the water in the North Rim area.
“Skilled volunteers” were requested to shoot and kill the bison to prevent any more environmental damage from taking place. But the event is not being classified as a hunt as it doesn’t involve what they call a fair chase. Hunting is prohibited within national parks, but the agency has the authority to kill
