U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson took center stage Thursday in a Republican effort to slow down the passage of a $1.9 trillion Democratic COVID-19 relief bill the Senate is expected to debate into the weekend.
Johnson, R-Oshkosh, who has described the massive stimulus package as unnecessary, forced a full reading of the more than 600-page document, which began Thursday afternoon and was expected to last into the early hours Friday.
He said he also plans to work with his Republican colleagues to introduce a litany of amendments to the bill to try to force lengthy votes and more debate on the legislation, a procedure he called a âvote-a-ramaâ in a WIBA radio interview.
ST. JOHNS A Clinton County judge dismissed embezzlement charges against a Lansing woman that accused her of embezzling nearly $1 million from her elderly father.
Clinton County District Court Judge Michael Clarizio dismissed the charge last week after Elizabeth Peterson s preliminary hearing, where the judge determines if there is enough evidence to move forward with the case.
Peterson was accused of embezzling about $900,000 from her 79-year-old father over the span of seven years, according to DeWitt Township Police Chief Mike Gute.
Gute said charges were dismissed because the judge decided it would be better handled as a civil matter.
Peterson s attorney, Edwar Zeineh, declined to comment. Clinton County Prosecutor Tony Spagnuolo did not respond for comment.

A Pilbara pastoral station is so confident in its wagyu cattle operations, it has earmarked funds that would turnaround a herd worth about $3 billion in the next 15 years.

The property is expected to run more than 100,000 cattle by 2035
It is the first large scale wagyu herd for the northwest region
Pardoo Station is located about 120 kilometres northeast of Port Hedland and is owned by Singaporean businessman Bruce Cheung.
Others eligible
Teachers and child care workers on Monday joined other groups eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, including frontline health care workers, nursing home and assisted-living residents, police officers, firefighters, correctional workers and residents 65 and older.
Also eligible starting Monday, but prioritized after teachers and child care workers, are: people in Medicaid long-term care programs, including those with disabilities; workers in public transit, all parts of the food industry and some other sectors; other essential health care workers; and residents in congregate living settings, including group homes, prisons and jails.
Willems Van Dijk said eligibility for other groups, such as people under 65 with chronic diseases, will be announced âvery soon.â
