Too Big To Fail? CMP Project Taking Shape Fast Despite Legal, Political Risks

Maine Public Construction has started on Central Maine Power s corridor that is meant to carry hydroelectric power from Quebec into the New England regional grid, although the project still faces numerous legal and other challenges. Central Maine Power first proposed building a transmission line to Canada in 2017, and four years of controversy later, there are still hurdles ahead: legal challenges at the state and federal levels, a statewide ballot item set for November, unexpected technical issues to address. But on Thursday, a federal court lifted an injunction that barred tree-clearing in one disputed segment. And elsewhere on the corridor, trees are being cut and cleared, and poles are rising from the brush. Some observers say the $950 million project s gathering momentum could make it unstoppable.

One of the US largest forests is in danger: Tucker Carlson Originals exposes green energy scam in Maine

Tucker Carlson and his team investigate how far foreign energy companies will go to deceive the residents and government of Maine. A new episode of Tucker Carlson Originals is now available on Fox Nation, and details just how far foreign energy companies will go to deceive the residents - and government - of Maine. In the episode,  Green Energy Scams: Maine, Carlson and his team head to Maine to investigate a corrupt green energy plot that threatens to destroy the largest forest in the Eastern United States. A group of foreign energy conglomerates who struck a deal to bring renewable energy to Massachusetts has proposed the Central Maine Power Corridor, a large scar of stripped land and power lines, which would run through and decimate more than 100 miles of Maine’s north woods.

Legislation that would silence foreign companies during Maine ballot campaigns gets first look

Maine Ethics Commission campaign finance records show that Hydro-Quebec Maine Partnership, a ballot question committee set up to oppose any initiatives to block the power line, spent $9.6 million between October 2019 and December of 2020. Another political action committee, Clean Energy Matters, fueled largely by donations from CMP and its parent Avangrid Service Company, part of the Spanish energy giant Iberdrola, spent an additional $12.6 million to support the corridor. Combined, the PACs shattered the $10 million record for ballot question spending. Supporters of the bills noted repeatedly that the Canadian Parliament in 2018 passed a law prohibiting foreign entities from spending to influence elections. Maine’s law against foreign spending on candidate campaigns does not address ballot question campaigns.
